A Survey on Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment

Vehicular Networks are receiving a lot of attention due to the wide variety of services they can provide. A lot of work and research around the globe is being conducted to define the standards for vehicular communications. These include frequency allocation, standards for physical and data link layers, routing algorithms, as well as security issues and new applications. This paper describes the Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) standard that is used for devices to communicate in a mobile vehicular environment. It operates at the center frequency of 5.9GHz and adopts a signal format defined by a draft of the IEEE 802.11p standard. It is based on the experimental data captured in a typical vehicle-toroadside access point environment, relating channel impulse responses and channel capacities.
